Retrofit in Whitley Bay

residential / extension / retrofit

We were approached by a client who had recently moved to a house located in Whitley Bay. The house needed a significant refurbishment on a tight budget, with the main aims to improve thermal performance and form a space for entertaining guests / dining. The house is a typical Victorian terrace with an offshoot to the rear housing the kitchen and utility room at ground floor with a bathroom above. All the spaces were dark and cold due to facing North and a lack of insulation.

We looked at multiple options for extending and providing the kitchen space they wanted through various reconfigurations of the rear of the house.

With each option we modelled the design in 3D with furniture to allow the client to visualise what the spaces would be like.

The rear of the house is undergoing a partial retrofit with woodfibre wall, floor and roof insulation. The intention is to use sustainable, natural materials which allow the building to breathe. The project is currently in Stage 4 (technical) design and will be moving onto site shortly.
