Retrofit in Sidney Grove

The rear of the house is undergoing a partial retrofit with woodfibre wall and roof insulation. The intention is to use sustainable, natural materials which allow the building to breathe. The project is currently in Stage 4 (technical) design and will be moving onto site shortly. Studio Mint are providing technical and interior design services on this project.

The house needed a significant refurbishment on a tight budget, with the main aims to improve thermal performance and bring light into the home. The house is a typical Victorian terrace with an offshoot to the rear housing the kitchen at ground floor with a bathroom above. All the spaces were dark and cold due to a lack of glazing and insulation. 

As part of the initial design work, we produced a retrofit report which broke the building down into elements for analysis. e.g. walls / roof / windows / floors to establish which areas would be targeted for retrofit during this phase of works and the most appropriate method for their thermal upgrade. The intention is that the rest of the house will be retrofitted at a later date when budget becomes available.
